Nigeria has domestic natural gas resources and an established natural gas industry. Where compressed natural gas (CNG) is accessible and commercially viable, it can provide an alternative fuel option for power generation.

For a customer in Nigeria, POWERZOO supplied a solution combining a Pressure Regulation Unit (PRU) and a gas generator set, designed to support the use of gas for electricity generation.

POWERZOO's Solution: PRU + Gas Generator

For this Nigerian customer, POWERZOO supplied two key components: a pressure regulation unit and a gas generator set.

1. Pressure Regulation Unit (PRU)

Gas generators require a stable gas supply within a specified inlet pressure range. CNG delivered by tube trailers can be stored at pressures of up to approximately 250 bar, while the gas generator in this project requires an inlet pressure of around 0.5–1.4 bar.

A Pressure Regulation Unit (PRU) is therefore installed between the CNG supply and the gas generator to reduce and regulate the gas pressure to the required operating range.

Depending on the system design, the PRU may also incorporate gas filtration, pressure monitoring, safety shut-off devices, and other protective components to support safe and reliable operation.

2. Gas Generator Set

The 400 kW COP gas generator set supplied for this project is powered by a Cummins K19N-G4 gas engine and equipped with a Stamford S5L1D-D4 alternator, providing a power generation solution tailored to the customer's requirements.

The gas generator converts the supplied CNG into electricity for the customer's application. Selecting the appropriate generator involves evaluating factors such as required power output, load characteristics, operating hours, ambient conditions, and maintenance requirements.

By integrating the gas generator with a Pressure Regulation Unit (PRU), POWERZOO provides a solution that addresses two essential parts of the power generation system: gas pressure regulation and electricity production.

The final system configuration is designed to match the actual CNG supply conditions and the generator's technical specifications, helping ensure compatibility between the gas supply equipment and the generating set.
